The 48 Hour Film Project (48HFP) is the most prestigious timed festival in the world. It takes place in over 140 cities across the globe and at benchfilms we host the Cape Town competition.

If you are unfamiliar with the competition the premise is simple: Write, Shoot, Post and deliver within 48 hours.
In 2025 we had 58 teams enter and compete and the competition continues to grow! In 2026 we will be hosting again so keep an eye on this page or like our 48HFP Facebook & Instagram page to stay up to date.
Filmmakers are encouraged to think creatively under pressure and often exceed their own expectations. In a single weekend, 1000 + Cape Town filmmakers are engaged in a 48 Hour Film Project and over 50 shorts are completed. Filmmakers stand the chance to win prizes from our generous sponsors and also use these films in other festivals to earn themselves further prestige.
