As with most filmmakers, his path has not been a straightforward one. Before venturing into the world of visual communication and film, PJ's previous pursuits included years sailing and working as a chef, skipper, dive master and professional fishing guide along the East Coast of Africa and even a short stint as a Surf Rock drummer. After obtaining an Honours Degree in Visual Communication specializing in Film, I taught Directing and Cinematography at the Open Window Institute before my passion for documentary and natural history filmmaking motivated me to permanently plunge into the film and television industry and start a production company called Bonanza Films which focuses on producing authentic South African documentary content.
